Nap works a treat! 30-32 deg cpu temps!

Any idea which version of 10.5 i need? not 10.5.2 etc but which disc type? there are retail versions, the grey discs that come with your machine etc etc.

and why are they sooooooo expensive?

anyone got one to sell on the cheap to a fellow PPC fan :D

I'm sure TJMax is rethinking how brilliant their idea is. But is it really illegal? What can Apple do?

Apple shouldn't be able to do anything. TJ Max buys at retail and sells for $100 off at a loss. This so far has become the most cost effective advertising campaign for TJ Max EVER! Just look at it. Mac Rumors is talking about TJ Max. this will probably hit major news networks as well if it hasn't already.

I'm not sure you would describe it as "caning" but Android phones comfortably outsold the iPhone last year.

That's not at all what's at discussion in this thread. We're talking OS penetration, not phones sold. The statement was made that although iOS is comfortably in the lead in the US, that it's behind in the rest of the world. Given the closeness of the phone units sold, I'd be _VERY_ surprised if iOS had a lower penetration than Android.

This is great. I recall a year ago that a few of us were at a friends house playing Tecmo Bowl. Another friend, who isn't a gamer and stuck in books, looked up and said this is funny. You guys have a Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, HDTV, 7.1 surround sound and you're having a blast playing a 20 year old game that looks like crap.

Kinda like this Atari thing. Powerful mobile phone that can do Unreal engine based games, yet people are thrilled for Atari games. Pretty funny and cool. Fun is fun right?

    Hi All,

First off I am new here, so Hi again

I have a small problem getting Microsoft Outlook 2001 to use my 2003 Exchange server. I have to admit I am new to macs and am finding it a little hard to do anything but I am trying.

From what I can tell is that for some reason my the mac will not resolve the server name to an ip address. I mean when I look in the Outlook settings, under services --> properties if I place the servers IP address there and then the user name and then 'check the name' it resolves the name of the server and under lines the user name (which as far as I am concerned has worked).

Yet when I then launch Outlook I get a message saying folders could not be opened. The attempt to log on to the server failed..... Microdoft Outlook could not be started. The attempt to log on to the MS Exchange Server failed....................

What I have done so far:-
Updated the /etc/hosts file and added the ip address for the server (can ping both IP and name from the console and network util)
When in Outlook settings --> properties and user the server name instead of the IP address and try and check name I get an error.. The name could not be resolved. Network problems are preventing connection to the MS Exchange Server, Contact your system adminsitrator (me).

Sorry for the long post but this is a real problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Ian

PS The only thing I can sort of think of at the moment is that Outlook starts I think in classic mode??? I am not sure if this starts a new shell and therefore ignores the /etc/hosts file and that is the reason why it can not resolve the server name. If I am right my next question would be where is the hosts file for the classic enviroment??

If you don't like me, don't read my posts. I was not put on this Earth to please you or anyone else.

Any comments I make toward anyone are based on their actions, and the actions of any particular group to which they may belong that attacks people like me. If you find that to be disrespectful, well then I don't know what to tell you. There are plenty of people here who do that just as much as, if not more, than I.

Some of us are sick of taking crap from the majority and refuse to sit still for it any longer. I'm ****ing tired of it after 25 years of fighting it. Deal with it or don't. The choice is yours. But don't expect me to there and take it if someone calls me ****** or anything like that. I'm not going to. No more Mr Nice Gay. If social conservatives, such as some Christians and Republicans, want respect, they could start by showing a little- something they have NEVER done for us, no matter how much we've tried.

Doesn't violence once begat more violence? I mean by any means necessary isn't all that great to help your cause.

Of course not. However, there are certain cases where the death penalty should be applied. The arizona shooter for example who killed a 9 year old girl and many others, he should be fried.

Why, what good does it do, does it bring back the people who where killed? Or if your goal is just to keep him from doing it again then wouldn't locking him up for life do the trick?

what da heck happened to .Mac exclusive widgets?

these are things I want for .Mac (and I have been a user for 3 years).

    1. increase of storage to 2gb.

    2. price drop to somewhere close to $50.

    3. integration of Leopard Mail features (such as Notes and stuff)

    4. faster iDisk speed.

    5. integration of iCal on .mac

maybe not all of them but at least some.

Every time there's a patent or copyright article and people go off the deep end calling these companies crazy/evil, etc, I wish the article would indicate the fact that they are actually required to do so or risk losing their patent/trademarks. Doesn't even matter if they want to or not.

Why would the article indicate that ? You do not risk losing patents by not suing over them. That's only applicable to trademarks.

So because you don't like Financial Times it's okay for everyone that they are holding out iPad subscriptions. This is exactly what's wrong with you Apple fanboys.

You should be penalizing Apple for allowing this to happen. but instead you jump for joy.

It has nothing to do with liking or not liking FT. It has to do with Apple protecting consumers by requiring companies to give you the choice to opt in.

I love that Apple is doing this. I wish they would actually make it an advertising point to say that they care about your privacy. If companies want your data they should offer a reduced price for your subscription and let you decide.

I realize with location based services, providing a service and maintaining privacy is a slippery slope, but I think most consumers can see when the exchange of location data is necessary to provide the service and can choose to use or not use the service.

One can debate all day long about the quality of technical services or capabilities being better than the other between say Droid and iOS, but I for one will happily pay for an OS, or a platform that protects my privacy over one that was designed solely to exploit it.

The iOS ecosystem is more mature than the Android system, and for that I am very happy for being on the iOS bandwagon.

Android doesn't have an ecosystem. The only thing that's close to have a full ecosystem is MS but even that lacks in a lot of major areas. So does apple's though in terms of mail/calendar/contact and sync in general. [MobileMe is NOT free. :|]

webOS seems pretty good but HP swears not to ship any product until the others swipe the market already.

I love the Apple ecosystem. It's so rich and fits in every day life; from pro-work to easy living, its all there.

Ummmm, I just paid $107 to renew my MobileMe subscription.

This Castle/Cloud thing better be free for people who JUST paid!

If it's not, I will be seriously angry at :apple:
