It surprises me that it would need different hardware. I know that it is possible to jailbreak a AT&T phone to work with T-mobile. so apparently it can be done with software.
The current iPhone can work on T-mobile with gsm/edge/2G only. When they mention different frequencies (UMTS Bands) they are talking about the current iPhone not support the 3G band that T-mobile uses.

I find most of the comments puerile or insane--over reacting with disdain or glee--while the major concern should be the function. I still find iCal a little limited and annoyingly so in terms of notes attached to daily functions.
Who gives a crap how it is decorated! Make the thing work better and it will work better, and that's what matters to real people who need real organization within their lives.

You need a larger sample size though.
With only one data point for each, you need Poisson statistics. The standard deviation would be the square root of the value.
So the two values are:
138.8 +/- 11.8
141.2 +/- 11.9
So the error bars are large enough that we can't say for sure.
Also the difference is small enough that oils from touching them could be the difference.
Its good data though. Just need some more for better statistics.
Dude, you're thinking too much... There should be very little difference between two white iphones as well as two black iphones since they're made exactly the same. I'd say one test is fairly reliable in this case assuming those are the same scales.

Have you been reading the recent rumors regarding the next iPhone release? That's the whole point of releasing the white iPhone 4 now, IMO. It's tying people over until iPhone 5, which will almost definitely not see the light of day at WWDC.

Also clock rate is not the only factor for determining chip speed... in fact it is a very small factor. The new processor is not just .17 hz faster, its a whole new architecture. Its why the 2.0 Ghz i7 in the 2011 MBPs are faster than the a 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 Prescott from 2004.

i was running -8, should i be running -16?
spotlight shouldnt have been an issue-- it had been on for hours and theres no user accounts on it. raid wasnt on yet.
not stressing too much about it. it's nice to replace a bunch of random machines (especially imacs) with one big producer that actually has a big fan and is designed to get rid of heat fast. those imacs get so hot i get scared for the components. we've had several go out recently. the fan hole on the back is so small its almost comical. apple can't have a fan on the back thats bigger than the logo! it can't have a hard drive light or a cd eject! that would ruin the aesthetics! can't replace the harddrive without suction cups!! needless to say i hate imacs.

I've just downloaded the update on my iPhone and iPad and i noticed that on the iPad (not iPhone) in the General Setings now there is now a multitouch gestures button to enable this function. It suports 4 fingers up to show the app switcher, 4 fingers to the sides to switch apps and 5 fingers to the centre to go to the home screen.
It works great!

By definition, having alternatives makes Apple NOT a monopoly.
It is not even necessary that there _are_ alternatives. It is enough if others _could_ enter the market if they wanted. In that situation, you cannot increase prices as you like, because at that point others _would_ enter the market.

Oh yeah definitely I love the thought of controlling my computer by poking the screen, yeah I just love the fingerprints on the glass of my screen so much and the mouse is so CLUNKY, all it's good for is stuff like doing work and getting stuff done.

Aside from the whole "personal responsibility" debate, why doesn't Apple just allow cancel/refund of purchases as long as it is done before the download is finished (meaning it's impossible to use)?

You hip generation might like holes in your jeans and scratches on your phone, but I just think it's stupid. :p
Maybe they're afraid of yet again having to face the embarassment of having first bashed a design and said it looks like a cheap chinese knock-off and then doing a 180 degree turn when it turns out it's Apples own design, it's a precautionary measure.
(For the record, I never liked the 3G/3GS design, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the leaked iP4 images and loved it when it turned out to be the actual thing, and if this ugly abomination turns out to be an actual Apple product I loose all respect for Apple)

If it did come out end of April. People will still buy it. Some people simply just don't know about Apple release cycles and will see it and jump to it if their contract is up.
